Mr. Islam is a renowned RS & GIS professional in Bangladesh. He is highly experienced in Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Web-GIS Programming, Disaster Management, Physical Infrastructure Planning, Design & Construction, Project and Programme Management, Policy Development, Agricultural Value Chains, Monitoring & Evaluation, Spatial and Non-Spatial Database Development, Web/Desktop/Mobile Software Development, LAN Administration, Teaching in University level and Training Facilitation. He has pursued Master of Engineering in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. He has completed Post Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) form United Nations affiliated Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTE-AP), IIRS, Dehradun, India. He has also done Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He has more than 34 years of multidisciplinary working experience in National, International and Development Partner Organizations. So far, he has worked in Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) as Civil Engineer/RSGIS Manger, in United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as GIS Database Specialist, in United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as Senior Mission GIS Specialist, in Development Alternatives Inc. (DAI) as GIS Specialist, in Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand as Project Researcher, in University of Dhaka as Assistant Professor. He is also experienced in GIS data capturing using GPS, Satellite and Drone based Imagery, GIS based Urban and Rural Planning, Web-GIS based Vehicle Tracking System, Road Safety Database Management System, Tsunami Tracking System, Disaster Incidence Database, GIS based Suitability Analysis for Urban Development and Agriculture, RS&GIS based Earthquake Micro-zonation mapping for Urban Area using Building Footprint captured from Satellite Image. He has field experience in collection of Building Inventory using Building Footprint. He has good knowledge of writing Policy Paper, Training Manual Development, Teaching and facilitating Training. He is very much conversant using different Commercial and Open Source Software for Web/Desktop/Mobile Application Development. Mr. Sohel is an experienced GIS, Climate Change and Project & Programme Management Specialist with the proven ability to lead, manage and implement projects in different segments, such as Climate Change, Agriculture, National Adaptation Plans, Good Governance, Project & Programme Management, Organizational Development, Liaison, Capacity and Competency Development and so on. He has completed a Master of Development Studies (MDS), a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management (PGDFM), a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Management Tools for Climate Change from the Institute For Housing and Urban Development Studies, IHS, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He has more than 22 years of multidisciplinary job experience with government, international organizations and private sectors. He worked with multilateral and bilateral organizations on different policy and plan issues, technical issues and procedural issues. He is very much familiar with the GoB policies, plans and procedures. He is also experienced with project proposal development, feasibility analysis, stakeholder mapping, policy analysis, government negotiation and stakeholder collaboration, web-based monitoring and evaluation, log frame development, operational management, organization development, capacity development, facilitation, reporting, knowledge management and so on. He has also developed many tools on climate change, gender, agriculture and so on. He is a certified collective leadership specialist. He has the ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multicultural environment. He can analyze issues based on reading, discussion and observation to provide prompt and succinct written and oral recommendations, options and strategies. Mr. Islam have completed Master’s in Disaster Management, Master of Science (MSc) in Geography & Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with MIS, and a result-oriented total of 24+ years of professional experience. Working over 12+ years in UN Agencies. e.g UNRC Office, UNDP (Mongolia, Bangladesh), UNCDF, UNDRR-Africa, UN-Women, WFP, UNDP-GEF Financed environmental management program (UNDP & Local Governments), GIZ-Bangladesh in the areas of DRR & CCA. Over 15 years of professional working experience with Government sector ministries & local governments (Bangladesh, Mongolia) over the DRR, CCA, and local climate governance (UNDP, UNCDF, Local Governments). He has specialization in ICT tools based multi-hazard early warning development (in UNDRR-Africa and Mongolia), database development, information management & online- geospatial service & web applications development. Expertise in GIS mapping, IT tools (GIS, GPS, drone, Apps) based multi-hazard & climate risk & vulnerability assessment (UNDP), risk-informed tools climate resilient planning etc (UNDRR-Africa, UNDP-Mongolia, Bangladesh).

He has more than 23 years of multidisciplinary working experience in National and Development Partner Organizations. So far, he has worked in Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) as GIS Specialist (Consultant), in United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as Sort Term National GIS Consultant, Hifab International AB, as Land Acquisition & Mapping Expert, Sundarbans Environmental and Livelihood Security (SEALS) Project, Forest Department as Consultant (GIS Expert), JICA Expert Team, Dhaka City Corporation as Consultant (GIS Specialist), Family Health International(FHI) as Consultant (GIS Specialist). He is also experienced in GIS data capturing using GPS, Satellite and Drone based Imagery (Drone Survey Data processing by drone deploy flight planning, DroneDeploy Mapping, UAS Master, Summit Evolution Software), GIS based Urban and Rural Planning, GIS based Suitability Analysis for Urban Development, RS&GIS based Urban Planning using Building Footprint captured from Satellite Image.
